Shishu Nivas O Shiksha Kendra

Vocational Training

Khelaghar has various vocational training programme in handloom, handicrafts, sewing, computer etc., through which the children get trained in these skills. The local villagers also get advantage from these training programmes.

Handicraft & Handloom

Daily training programme in handicrafts and handloom is conducted for the rural and needy women as also for the inmates. The embroidery work done by the students on various items are highly appreciated and always witness a great demand in the handicraft exhibitions that are organized in Kolkata, Shanti Niketan and other places. The handloom section of the women community is benefited by supplementing their income to improve their financial standards.

Farming

Khelaghar has approximately 20 bighas of cultivatable land, where various crops like jute, paddy, lentil, mustard and green vegetables are grown by rotation for the consumption of the Khelaghar inmates.

Music & Dance

A very senior music teacher from Kolkata visits Khelaghar twice a week to teach the children. The children also get training in recitation, elocution, voice modulation from senior teachers. Dance training classes are also held twice a week. All Khelaghar festivals are secular and season oriented and centres round the children who perform with music and dance and enjoy all the attention and praise. The two major functions are the tree planting ceremony conducted every year in July / August to welcome the Monson and the spring festival during February / March to welcome the Spring. All these festivals are our expressions of the need to encourage preservation of nature for rural reconstruction and ecological balance.

Computer Center

A computer centre has been started for the students, with computers received from donors. We have a computer teacher to train the children. Computer literacy is significant in today’s age…. it has opened a new horizon for these children.

Self Defence Classes

We have recently started Self Defence and Karate Classes for Girls.

 

Financial Support

Khelaghar also provides financial assistance for the education of the children who pass out from the Khelaghar School and express the wish to continue their studies or avail any technical training programme.

Khelaghar - a charitable welfare residential Home and education centre for children in need and distress.
